Description
One can hike a portion of the Trail of Tears at The Nature Conservancy's Mantle Rock Preserve in Livingston County, Kentucky. Thousands of Cherokee camped for weeks here as they waited for ice conditions in the Ohio River to allow a safe crossing. The entrance to the hiking trail is located in Joy, Kentucky. I attempted to capture the natural beauty of this incredible preserve, but the photographs only tell part of my experience. My heart ached and I, too, shed tears for those who suffered here. I will never forget my experience in this sacred place.
