Artist's Description
This digital art was created from a photograph taken as we crossed the Ohio River. The photograph was manipulated to achieve the final image. The Daniel Carter Beard Bridge carries Interstate 471 between Newport, Kentucky, and Cincinnati, Ohio, over the Ohio River. Built during the 1970s, the Beard Bridge (also called the Big Mac Bridge due to its arches) initially opened in 1977 and was fully dedicated as part of Interstate 471 in 1981. The bridge is 2100 feet in length, with a 750-foot main span with a steel, tied-arch design. Each of the two spans carry four lanes.
