While purchasing freshly-picked blueberries from a local farmer in East Springfield, Pennsylvania I was offered a tour of his vineyard and garden. I spied what was the last remaining mammoth sunflower of the season and took this photograph. When he told me how long he had been harvesting the seeds and replanting, it reminded me of the sunflowers I remember when I was five years old. We had moved back from Kentucky back to Missouri to my mother's people after my father had taken his life when I was three. I remember the little house that my mother had managed to build just south of my grandparents garden. I remember my mom helping plant the sunflower seeds and how happy she was when they grew to full bloom. Happy memories.
I worked in the field of advertising and marketing until my retirement. Now I am having fun just being an artist!
