This engraved marker is located at the Springfield-Greene County Botanical Center in Springfield, Missouri. It reads:
George Washington Carver 1860 – 1943
George Washington Carver, born of slave parents, was raised by a white farmer, Moses Carver near Diamond, Mo. Mr. Carver worked his way through agriculture school at Iowa State. He revolutionized southern farming by showing how other crops were more profitable than cotton. As Director of Tuskegee Institute, he developed hundreds of industrial uses for peanuts and sweet potatoes.
